Consulting on Faray

Underwater noise, bubble curtains, dredging - just some of the key topics covered in our latest consultation as part of Orkney's Community Wind Farm Project.

This time around we were focusing in on the marine structures associated with the Faray project - namely the new extended slipway and landing jetty, which will give us easy access to the island if the project goes ahead.

If you've ever been out to Faray, you'll know that access to the island is currently taken from a small slipway located to the south. This slipway is in a dilapidated condition and currently only suitable for small landing craft style vessels. The installation of a new extended slip and new landing jetty would ensure general continued access to Faray and would facilitate future development.

A new slip, for example, would provide access for construction equipment and vehicles, allowing preliminary site works to be undertaken. The landing jetty would facilitate the delivery of large wind turbine components.

As part of the consultation, we held an online discussion event earlier this month - and with NatureScot, Northern Lighthouse Board, RSPB and Orkney Fisheries - as well as members of the public - all logging in to find out more and chat with the project team, it provided a great opportunity to find out the views of some key stakeholders - which will now help shape the final application documents.

The consultation is now closed but you can still read all the consultation material, included a handy FAQ document, at www.orkney.gov.uk/FarayMarine.
